## Symptoms

- * The PPPoE interface loses its IP address after the Internet Service Provider's restart until rebooting the Security Gateway.

* The `/var/log/messages` file contains these messages:

  * `Timeout waiting for PADO packets`
  * `Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery`
* Changing the state of the PPPoE interface to "off" and then to "on" resolves the issue.

## Cause

When a PPPoE interface is added, it obtains a unique interface identifier ("`ifn`"), which is stored in the "`ifn_map`" database.

When the Internet Service Provider refreshes the IP address of an existing PPPoE interface:

1. The system changes the existing PPPoE interface name in the "`oftab`" database.
2. However, the changes do not reach the "`ifn_map`" database, which means the "`ifn`" identifier remains the same.
3. The IP address change of the PPPoE interface does not reach the "`ifn_map`" database as well.
The difference between the two databases causes the interface issues.
