## Symptoms

- * If an object is called "`myLogServer`" (one string without separating characters), then searching without a wildcard character "`*`" just for the word "`log`" or just for the word "`server`" in SmartConsole Objects Explorer and Objects sidebar does not find it.

* If an object is called "`my-Log-Server`", the searching searching without a wildcard character "`*`" just for the word "`log`" or just for the word "`server`" in SmartConsole Objects Explorer and Objects sidebar shows this object.

## Cause

This feature (partial search without a wildcard character "\*") is not included in the Management Server.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

* [Check Point Quantum R82](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk181127)

If you choose not to upgrade, Check Point can supply a **Hotfix** . [Contact Check Point Support](https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/.contact-support/) to get a Hotfix for this issue.
A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing the Hotfix.
For faster resolution and verification, please collect [CPinfo files](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk92739) from the Security Management Server and Security Gateways involved in the case.

**Explanation of the improvement:**

The search in Objects Explorer and Objects sidebar was improved. The partial search in text fields (name of an object, comment, and so on) does not require entering the wildcard character "`*`"(asterisk) anymore in a scenario that meets all these conditions:

1. The text field contains a single string (without spaces or separating characters).
2. The complete string in the text field contains parts where the letter case changes, letters change to digits, or digits change to letters.
   Example of an object name with such substrings:
   `MyLogServer123awesome`
3. An administrator enters a search substring that begins and ends at the border of a letter-case change, letter-to-digit change, or digit-to-letter change in the complete string.

Examples:

|---------------------------------------------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Substring Change                                                    | Description                                                                                                                                                                                          | Search Examples                                                                           |
| A letter-case change border | In an object name "`MyLogServer123awesome`", the substring "`Log`" and the substring "`Server`" start with a different letter case | Search for one of these substrings: * `log` * `server` |
| A letter-to-digit change border | In an object name "`MyLogServer123awesome`", the substring of digits "`123`" starts after the letter "`r`" | Search for one of these substrings: * `12` * `123` |
| A digit-to-letter change border                                     | In an object name "`MyLogServer123awesome`", the substring "`awesome`" starts after the digit "`3`"                                                                                                  | Search for one of these substrings: * `awe` * `awesome`                                   |
| A letter-to-digit change border and a digit-to-letter change border | In a comment string "`clean word123another`": * the substring "`clean`" is one string * the substring "`123`" starts after the letter "`d`" * the substring "`another`" starts after the digit "`3`" | Search for one of these substrings: * `cle` * `clean` * `12` * `123` * `anot` * `another` |

**Important Note:**

To find an object with the name "`MyLogServer123awesome`", if you search for substrings that do not start at the described change borders of letter case / digits, like "`erver`" or "`some`", you still must enter the wildcard character "`*`":

* `*erver*`
* `*some`
