# sk181470 - VPN connection with certificate-based IKEv2 authentication fails when peers use different certificate encoding and/or hashing algorithm

## Symptoms

- * Peers cannot establish an IKEv2 tunnel when they use certificates with different encoding/hashing algorithms. For example, one peer is a Check Point Security Gateway using an RSA-based certificate, while its peer uses an ECDSA-based certificate.
* The Check Point Security Gateway can crash during the VPN negotiation, when it is a responder. On the other hand, when the Check Point Security Gateway is the initiator of the VPN negotiation, the VPN connection is successful.
