## Symptoms

- * Connection to the VMware vCenter Data Center Object is lost after a version upgrade to vCenter version 7.

* You receive this error message when testing the connection:

  `
  Status: The connection has failed`
  `
Description: The server returned the error: Disconnected. Please contact support.`

* In the file *$FWDIR/log/cloud_proxy.elg* (or *$MDS_FWDIR/log/cloud_proxy.elg* in a Multi-Domain Management Server environment) you can see these errors:

  `
ERROR dcscanner.VCenter.VCenterScanner [Thread-19]: Exception while connecting to server. Server URL: XXXXX User name: XXXXX`
  `
java.rmi.RemoteException: VI SDK invoke exception:javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: com.ibm.jsse2.util.h: PKIX path building failed: java.security.cert.CertPathBuilderException: PKIXCertPathBuilderImpl could not build a valid CertPath.; internal cause is:
  java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: The certificate issued by OU=VMware Engineering, O=XXXXXX, ST=XXXXX, C=XXXXX, DC=local, DC=vsphere, CN=XXXX is not trusted; internal cause is: `
  `
  java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: Certificate chaining error`

## Cause

The new certificate of the VMware server is not considered trusted for older Gaia versions (up until R80.40). Therefore the connection to the Data Center fails.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

* [Check Point R81](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/product/184)
* [Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R80.40](https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/Jumbo_HFA/R80.40/Default.htm) starting from Take 83

Check Point recommends to always upgrade to the [Recommended version](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk95746) ([Security Gateway](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/Quantum/73) / [VSX](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/Quantum/359) / [Security Management Server](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/Quantum/184) / [Multi-Domain Security Management Server](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/Quantum/166) / [SmartConsole](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/Quantum/191)).

If you choose not to upgrade, [contact Check Point Support](https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/contact-support/) to get a Hotfix for your version.

A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing it.
For faster resolution and verification, collect [CPinfo](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk92739) files from the Management Server and Security Gateways / Cluster Members involved in the case.

**Hotfix installation instructions:**
Refer to [sk168597 - How to install a Hotfix](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk168597).
