## Symptoms

- * Endpoint Security VPN client for macOS fails to connect to a VPN Gateway using a machine certificate.
* In the Endpoint Security VPN client GUI, this error message appears:
"*Internal error; connection failed. More details may be available in the logs.*"
* On the macOS endpoint computer, **Console.app \> Log reports** , the *trac.log* file contains this line: "*KeychainHelper::cmdSignWithName: Failed to sign. Error code: '-25308'*"
* In the macOS endpoint computer \> **Access Control settings** , the "**Confirm before allowing access**" option is selected for the machine certificate private key. Each time an unauthorized application tries to access the key, macOS asks for confirmation.
* The machine certificate is configured on the Security Gateway. The machine certificate (with private key) is stored in the System Keychain of the macOS endpoint computer.

## Cause

The macOS endpoint computer runs the VPN service as a daemon that is not associated with a logged-in user. When the VPN service tries to access the private key, macOS does not know to which user to send the confirmation dialog.
