# sk181060 - Upgrade of Windows 10 or Windows 11 fails when FDE Bitlocker encrypted.

## Symptoms

- * Upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11 from Windows 10 fails when FDE is encrypted by Bitlocker policy.
* Upgrade to Windows 10 and Windows 11 works after removing Full Disk Encryption blade.
* The file exists at C:\\Windows\\System32\\update\\run\\FDEBCBF7-9A83-479A-BFD6-887862DAD49A\\

## Cause

Full Disk Encryption blade (FDE) uses custom action scripts to block upgrades when a problematic boot-order is detected in the firmware. The*preinstall.cmd* file is automatically executed during OS upgrades and can prevent the upgrade to proceed.  
This check fails when FDE uses Bitlocker and it leads to blocking the Windows upgrade.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

* Endpoint Security Client E87.40
