# sk180966 - The CPU value in the output of the "cpstat os -f cpu" command is not correct

| Property | Value |

| Solution ID | sk180966 |
| Date Created | 2023-05-17 |
| Last Modified | 2026-04-27 |

| Products | Security Gateway |
| Versions | R81.20, R81.10 (EOS), R81 (EOS) |
| OS | Gaia |
| Platform | 5000 |

## Symptoms

- * The idle time period appears to be normal, but the actual CPU output is consistently incorrect, always maintaining the same value. Even when the CPU usage is at 90-100%, the output from the command remains constant.
* The output of the "cpstat os -f cpu" command is inaccurate.
* However, when inspecting the output of "cpstat os -f multi_cpu", the value is correct.

## Cause

In a setup with multiple CPUs, the problem comes from a mistake in how CPU values are calculated. In a single CPU system, values are taken directly from */proc/stat* . In a multi-CPU configuration, the issue arises because the cumulative amount repeatedly increases. Both SNMP and *cpstat*use this incorrect method, adding to the problem.
