# sk180890 - Local backup of Security Management Server fails with "BACKUP operation failed. Details: Environment Error ... Aborting"

## Symptoms

- * Backup of Security Management Server fails with error "*BACKUP operation failed. Details: Environment Error ... Aborting*".
* Error messages in the *backup.elg* file show:

  ```

  [Wed Mar 22 13:31:58 2023]: Error: 'verify_env': The following directories are mising:
  [Wed Mar 22 13:31:58 2023]: Error: 'verify_env': /var/CPsnapshot/log/snapshots[Wed Mar 22 13:31:58 2023]: Environment Error ... Aborting.
  [Wed Mar 22 13:31:58 2023]: Environment Error ... Aborting.
  [Wed Mar 22 13:31:58 2023]: Info: 'main' : <<<< END - 22/03/23-13:31:58-IST >>>>
  ```

* Error messages in the *backup.elg* file from a gateway show:

  ```
  
  [Thu Dec 12 10:28:16 2024]: Error: 'verify_env': The following directories are mising:
  [Thu Dec 12 10:28:16 2024]: Error: 'verify_env': /var/log/CPbackup/backups
  ```

## Cause

The backup fails because the */var/CPsnapshot/log/snapshots* directory is missing from the Security Management Server.  

The backup can fail because the */var/log/CPbackup/backups* directory is missing from the gateway.
