# sk180774 - "Authentication failed: bad credentials" - Identity Agent on macOS fails to connect

## Symptoms

- * When Identity Agent for a User Endpoint Computer is configured to allow end users on macOS to save passwords, the Agent shows the error message "Authentication failed:bad credentials" and the **Save Password** button is grayed out.  
  Configuration of Identity Agent to allow users to save passwords:
  1. Open SmartConsole.
  2. From the left, select select **Gateways and Servers**.
  3. Open the relevant Security Gateway object.
  4. From the left, click **Identity Awareness**.
  5. Select **Identity Agents**.
  6. Next to **Identity Agents** , click **Settings**.
  7. In the **Session** section, select **Allow user to save password**.
* After end users manually enter their username and password, they can connect with Identity Agent.
* *IdentityAgent.log* shows failed login attempts and then a successful login. The password hash for the successful login is different from the password has for the failed login attempts.

## Cause

This is a macOS issue, not a Check Point issue. The user's password changed. The macOS Keychain Access application tries to use the user's old credentials to authenticate with Identity Agent for a User Endpoint Computer.
