# sk180511 - Identity Collector does not trust certificate from Cisco ISE server

## Symptoms

- * Identity Collector fails to connect to Cisco ISE. In the Identity Collector Agent, the **Identity Sources** tab shows that Cisco ISE is not connected.
* Traffic capture shows that Identity Collector sends a "*Certificate Unknown* " message to the ISE and then sends a "*FIN*" message to stop the connection.
* On the ISE Server, *ia_ise_extension.log* shows:  
  `ERROR: Failed to connect to ISE Server: domain.local. add to Reconnection list
  we are unable to find valid certification path to requested target
  we do find some certificates but all of them are from Unknown Source for example:=
  at sun.security.ssl.CertificateMessage$T12CertificateConsumer.checkServerCerts(Unknown Source)
  at sun.security.ssl.CertificateMessage`
* IDC debug shows:  
  `GatheringManager::connectToIseServer: ERROR: Failed to connect to ISE Server: destino-mgmt.casareal.local. add to Reconnection list
  javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target
  at sun.security.ssl.Alert.cre/ateSSLException(Unknown Source)`

## Cause

This is a certificate store problem. Identity Collector cannot trust the ISE certificate.
