## Solution

To make changes to disk size or add an additional disk, the changes need to be made inside the **OVF** file. If you have an **OVA** file, see [sk180334](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk180334) to extract an OVF file.

**To change the disk size**
To change an already existing, review the configuration inside *DiskSection* in the OVF file.
This example describes a disk with 100 Gigabytes:
` <DiskSection>`
` <Info>Virtual disk information</Info>`
` <Disk ovf:capacity="100" ovf:capacityAllocationUnits="byte * 2^30" ovf:diskId="vmdisk1" ovf:fileRef="file1"`
` ovf:format="http://www.vmware.com/interfaces/specifications/vmdk.html#streamOptimized"/>`
` </DiskSection>`

To specify the new size, consider these two values:

* ovf:capacity
* ovf:capacityAllocationUnits

The *ovf:capacity* valueis measured by*ovf:capacityAllocationUnits.*

Values for *ovf:capacityAllocationUnits* has a base unit of "byte". Use \* and \^ operators to specify the size.

For example:
"byte \* 2 \^ 30" represents the unit of Gigabytes
"byte \* 2 \^ 20" represents the unit of Megabytes
"byte \* 2 \^ 10" represents the unit of Kilobytes
**To add additional disks**
(a)Add a new \<*Disk\>* tag inside *\<DiskSection\>.*

For example:
`<Disk ovf:capacity="100" ovf:capacityAllocationUnits="byte * 2^30" ovf:diskId="vmdisk2" ovf:format="http://www.vmware.com/interfaces/specifications/vmdk.html#streamOptimized"/>`

These are the parameters:

1. capacity (size of disk)
2. capacityAllocationUnits (the unit which is used to measure ovf:capacity)
3. diskId (distinct ID of the disk)
4. format (Copy and paste this specific format:`"http://www.vmware.com/interfaces/specifications/vmdk.html#streamOptimized"`)

(b) Add a new item tag inside *\<VirtualHardwareSection\>.*
For example:
`<Item>`
` <rasd:AddressOnParent>1</rasd:AddressOnParent>`
` <rasd:ElementName>Hard disk 2</rasd:ElementName>`
` <rasd:HostResource>ovf:/disk/vmdisk2</rasd:HostResource>`
` <rasd:InstanceID>12</rasd:InstanceID>`
` <rasd:Parent>4</rasd:Parent>`
` <rasd:ResourceType>17</rasd:ResourceType>`
` <vmw:Config ovf:required="false" vmw:key="backing.writeThrough" vmw:value="false"/>`
`</Item>`

These are the parameters:

1. AddressOnParent
For a device, specifies its location on the controller. It should be sequential, if the first disk AddressOnParent is 0 then the next one should be 1 and so on.
2. ElementName
Is a human-readable description of the content, no limitations.
3. HostResource
Specifies how a virtual device connects to a resource on the virtualization platform. It
should be equal to *ovf:/disk/\<diskId\>* , the *diskId* is the new ID you defined in the *\<DiskSection\>.*
4. InstanceID
Specifies a unique instance ID of the element within the section, it should be unique to each item in *\<VirtualHardwareSection\>.*
5. Parent
Specifies the InstanceID of the parent controller (if any), it should be equal to the already existing disk.
6. ResourceType
Specifies the kind of device that is being described, it should be equal to the already existing disk.
7. vmw:Config
Copy and paste as shown in the example.
