# sk180303 - How to create an Azure disk snapshot for CloudGuard Network Security Gateway

## Solution

To create Azure disk snapshot for Cloud Firewall
------------------------------------------------

1. Power off the Virtual Machine.

2. In the Azure Portal, navigate to the **resource group** of your Gateway.

3. Click on the disk that you select for the snapshot.

4. In the new window select **Create Snapshot.**

5. Select a resource group, provide a name and select the same storage type as the current disk.

6. Click next on the next few tabs and make any required change. Finally, click on **Create.**

To restore from an Azure disk snapshot for Cloud Firewall
---------------------------------------------------------

1. Navigate to the snapshot object in the applicable resource group.

2. Select **Create Disk** in the disk overview page.

3. Select the applicable resource group, provide a name for the disk and select the same storage type (standard / premium) and the correct size as the current disk.

4. Click **Next** on the next tabs and make any required change. Finally, click on **Create.**

5. After the VM is created, follow one of the below 2 options:

   * **Option 1: Azure Portal**

     1. Navigate to the VM object and select the **Disk**menu.

     2. Click **Swap OS disk.**

     3. Select the new disk, enter the VM name and click **OK**.

   * **Option 2: Azure CLI Guide**

     1. From a different machine (any other machine you can access your Azure account from), log in to your account with Azure CLI (`# az login`).

     2. Execute in the Azure CLI:

        1. Show the disks you have available and make sure your new disk exist:

           `# az disk list --output table`

        2. Stop the VM you are restoring the snapshot in:

           `# az vm stop -n <vm_name> -g <resource_group>`
        3. Swap the new disk into the applicable VM:

           `# az vm update -n <vm_name> -g <resource_group> --os-disk <resource_id>`

           Note: You can find the Resource ID in the disk properties in Azure Portal.
        4. Start the VM:

           `# az vm start -n <vm_name> -g <resource_group>`
