# sk179689 - Security Gateway connected to a Log Server using a Bond interface fails to send its logs

| Property | Value |
|----------|-------|
| Solution ID | sk179689 |
| Date Created | 2022-07-15 |

| Technical Level | General |
| Products | Security Gateway |
| Versions | R81.20, R81.10 (EOS), R81 (EOS) |
| OS | Gaia |

## Symptoms

- * The Log Server does not show logs from the Security Gateway in SmartConsole.

* Traffic capture on the Log Server for traffic sent from the Security Gateway to the TCP port 257 does not show any such traffic.

* The ARP table on the Security Gateway ('`arp -an`') shows "*Incomplete*" for the IP address of the Log Server.

* Steps from [sk38848 - Practical troubleshooting steps for logging issues](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk38848) did not resolve the issue.

## Cause

The Security Gateway and the Log Server connect through a switch:

\[Security Gateway\] (Bond in LACP 802.3ad mode) === (Bond in LACP 802.3ad mode) \[Switch\] === \[Log Server\]

The Security Gateway uses a Bond interface in the LACP (802.3ad) mode to connect to a switch.

However, the LACP is disabled on the switch.

## Solution

This is not a Check Point issue.

To resolve the issue, do one of these:

* Enable LACP on the switch

* Change the configuration to use a physical interface instead of a Bond interface (see the [Gaia Administration Guide](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/73) for your version \> Chapter "Network Management" \> Section "Network Interfaces" \> Section "Bond Interfaces (Link Aggregation)").
