## Solution

This feature filters the IPS protection and improves the performance of the appliance.

The IPS protection filter is **enabled** by default.

**Important Notes**

* To check the current state of the filter, run this clish command:
  `show ips engine-settings advanced-settings` under the field `apply-filter`.
* The filtering occurs on the next IPS signature update.

**To enable/disable the filter:**

**Locally Managed appliances:**

1. In the appliance WebUI, go to **Device** \> **Advanced** \> **Advanced Settings** \> **IPS engine settings - Apply filter**.
2. Double click on the attribute name and click the flag **Apply filter** to enable/disable.
3. Click **Apply** .
