# sk178424 - Error message "Failed to create Static Controller instance from uid" when running/exporting a view or report OR opening a new tab in SmartView.

## Symptoms

- * In smartview.log. see these error messages:

  ```
  
  - "Failed to create Static Controller instance from uid: {}"
  - "error ref id: 8994793D, Initialization failed" (random ID)
  ```

* SmartView fails to load. If you try to open a new tab, it is stuck.

* Unable to open or export a specific view\\report.

## Cause

There is a report or view that refers to one or more UIDs that represent a controller, but the controller itself does not exist in *controls.xml*

This causes a NullPointerException and causes failures when you run this report, or view and export it, or open a new SmartView tab.
