# sk178165 - The configuration made with the 'cipher_util' on a Security Gateway is not applied immediately after modifying Multi-Portal ciphers

## Symptoms

- * When you run the "`cipher_util`" tool, select the "`Multi Portal`" menu, enable or disable ciphers, and print the configuration, the tool shows the expected list of enabled ciphers.

  When you quit the tool and save the configuration, the tool shows "*Successfuly reconfigured*".
* When you run the "`cipher_util`" tool again, select the "`Multi Portal`" menu, and print the configuration, the tool shows the list of enabled ciphers before your change.

## Cause

The vpnd daemon on the Security Gateway does not initiate the reconfiguration correctly.

**Important** - This issue does not have an effect on HTTPS Inspection.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

If you do not wish to upgrade, Check Point can supply a Hotfix. [Contact Check Point Support](https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/contact-support/) to get a Hotfix for this issue. A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing the Hotfix.
For faster resolution and verification, please collect [CPinfo](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk92739) files from the Security Management and Security Gateways involved in the case.

**Workaround procedure on the Security Gateway / each Cluster Member:**

1. Connect to the command line.
2. Log in to the Expert mode.
3. Start the tool:  
   `cipher_util`
4. Select the "`Multi Portal`" menu.
5. Enable or disable the required ciphers.
6. Print the configuration.
7. Quit the tool.
8. Save the configuration.
9. Install the Security Policy:  
   `fw fetch local`
10. Start the tool again:  
    `cipher_util`
11. Select the "`Multi Portal`" menu.
12. Print the configuration to make sure your change is applied.
13. Quit the tool.
