# sk177923 - Routing changes can affect gateway topology

## Symptoms

- A route or interface modification before a sic reset (even a long time before sic reset) can affect the topology

## Cause

?ny change of a gateway static routing may affect topology settings of the gateway as they appear in SmartConsole. These settings are synchronized every time you click Get Interfaces in SmartConsole explicitly or implicitly. For example, the settings are synchronized implicitly when you reset SIC.  

The default topology settings for every interface that is not leading to Internet is "**This Network**".

## Solution

Make sure to re-check your topology settings (the **Network Management** page in the gateway or cluster editor) after each time you:  

* Do Get Interfaces
* Reset SIC
* Install policy
