## Symptoms

- * Users change the IP address of an Identity Awareness Gateway. Then, the gateway does not match traffic to an Access Role or drops traffic because of the cleanup rule.
* After the change of IP address, the Identity Awareness Gateway matches traffic to the same Access Role as before the change.
* Identity Agents can authenticate.
* SmartConsole shows Identity Awareness Login/Logout logs.
* The PDP acquires the correct identity information (by user or by IP address).
* `# pep show network reg` shows "`daemon did not respond or not running!`"

## Cause

When you change the IP address of a component that is related to Identity Awareness (examples: Security Gateway, Identity Collector, Active Directory), the change may happen only after reboot. This can cause traffic issues.

These are the possible causes of the problem:

* The PEPD process is not aware of the change to the IP address of the Identity Awareness Gateway.
* The PEPD process is down.
