## Solution

### Overview

This article provides an improved software image to support a serial console access to a Quantum Spark 1530 / 1550 / 1570 / 1590 / 1570R through the USB Type-A port over a serial RS232 cable.

In addition to using the USB Type-A port for connecting an external storage device, an administrator can also connect to the command line on the appliance after the appliance boots.

**Note** - In contrast to the default serial console USB Type-C port, the serial connection to the USB Type-A port does not show the messages during the appliance boot.

### Supported Serial Connections to the USB Type-A Port

1. Using an RJ45-to-USB-Type-A cable  
   \[Console Server, or Computer with a Terminal Client\] (serial RJ45 port) ===\>

2. Using an RS232-to-USB-Type-A cable  
   \[Console Server, or Computer with a Terminal Client\] (RS232 DB9 port) ===\>

3. Using an RS232-to-USB-Type-A cable and RJ45-to-DB9-Adapter  
   \[Console Server, or Computer with a Terminal Client\] (RS232 DB9 port) ===\>

   ===\> RS232-to-RJ45Adapter, in which the DB9 pin # 2 must be TD (TxD, Transmit Data), and the DB9 pin # 3 must be RD (RxD, Received Data) ===\>

### Procedure

1. Install or Upgrade to this image on your Quantum Spark 1500 appliance:

2. Connect the serial cable that includes the FTDI (FT232RL) chip between a serial port on your Console Server or Computer and the USB Type-A port on your Quantum Spark 1500 appliance.

3. Configure the Baud rate of 115200 bps on your Console Server or Computer (in your Terminal Client, such as PuTTY, SecureCRT, HyperTerminal, and similar).
