# sk176769 - DHCP server configured on Gaia OS does not assign IP addresses to clients

## Symptoms

- * DHCP server configured on Gaia Security Gateway does not assign IP addresses to clients.

* The output of the command: `"ps aux | grep dhcpd"` shows that dhcpd process is not running.

* dhcpd does not start when running the command: `"tellpm process:dhcpd ; tellpm process:dhcpd t".`

* <br />

  Attempt to run the process in the foreground with: `"/usr/sbin/dhcpd -d -cf /etc/dhcpd.conf"` shows this error :   
  `
  "Configuration file errors encountered -- exiting"`

## Cause

The */etc/dhcpd.conf* file is corrupted or modified incorrectly.
