## Symptoms

- The 2+1 power supply redundancy configuration of the 26000 and 28000 Security Appliance Gateways is not easily supported in Data Centers which normally have two separate power grids.

## Solution

The 26000 and 28000 Security Appliance Gateways were designed with 3 x 850W Power Supply Units (PSUs) with plans to support high-powered FRUs in all 8 expansions slots. Therefore, the need for a 2 +1 (or 1:N) power supply configuration. This presents a challenge in Data Centers with a typical dual power source (two grids, A \& B) in efforts to maintain power redundancy.

The data sheets for the 26000 and 28000 Security Appliance Gateways reflect maximum power consumption based on the population of eight high-powered FRUs. As it stands, there are no high-powered add-in cards for the 26000 or 28000 Security Appliance Gateways shipping today or on the road map for future. This means that the 26000 and 28000 Security Appliance Gateways can safely operate with a single 850W AC PSU even at a full load (FRUs populated in all 8 expansion slots, maximum memory, and CPUs at maximum utilization).

Check Point recommends the following topology:

* 2 x AC PSUs connected to circuit A (primary power circuit or utility power)
* 1 x AC PSU connected to circuit B (backup power circuit and/or generator)

All 3 AC PSUs share the power load. In the event of a single (1) PSU failure with any of the 3 PSUs, the Security Appliance is protected without interruption. Conversely, if the Data Center experiences failure with the primary power source (utility company), the Security Appliance is equally protected with the single 850W AC PSU on the backup power circuit.

To avoid unnecessary PSU alarms and system notifications, all 3 AC PSUs must be installed.
