# sk174026 - In-place upgrade of Security Management Server from R80.10 to a higher version fails with a "Scheme adjustment had failed" error

## Symptoms

## Cause

The Multiple Entry Point (MEP) feature provides a High Availability and Load Sharing solution for VPN connections. A Security Gateway on which the VPN module is installed provides one entry point to the internal network. It is the Security Gateway that makes the internal network "available" to remote machines. If a Security Gateway becomes unavailable, the internal network, too, is no longer available. A MEP environment has two or more Security Gateways that protect and enable access to the same VPN domain, giving peer Security Gateways with uninterrupted access  

A blocking validation error occurs during an upgrade if MEP is configured with one Gateway.
