# sk173645 - Greyed out network entities for assigned entities in SmartEndpoint console and the WebUI

## Symptoms

- * In the SmartEndpoint console and the WebUI, network entities are greyed out for selection for assigned entities in the policy.

* Changing from mixed-mode to Computer mode and back to mixed-mode lets the user select a network range.

* Configured policies with public network ranges selected for assigned entities in the policy no longer work.

* Below the **Reporting** tab: "`clients showing PRIVATE IP instead of the public`".

## Cause

There is a behavior change starting from the upgraded R81 server and E84.30 client: LOCAL IP addresses of Endpoint client machines are used, not global (public).

As a result, the server (during the calculation needed for the policy) does not align with the IP that was put in the policy and that the server received from the client.

## Solution

Change the Network Ranges to reflect the local (private) IP ranges of the clients:

In SmartEndpoint:

1. Navigate to **Users and Computers**.
2. Select **Networks** to see configured network ranges.
3. Right-click on the desired network range to edit it.
4. Change the IP range to reflect the local (private) IP ranges of clients.

This is the procedure we recommend to configure Network Ranges to be local IP when possible. Now they are able to configure IPs as they see them internally, not over NAT.
