# sk172964 - "Object [threat profile name] could not be deleted because it is referenced by other objects" error when trying to delete threat profile for global domain policy

## Symptoms

- * Threat profile deletion fails in Multi Domain global policy with error: "Object \<threat profile name\> could not be deleted because it is referenced by other objects" on SmartConsole.

* The Threat policy does not use the threat profile, and checking 'Where Used...' for the threat profile nothing is found.

## Cause

Global object deletion is blocked when used in Domains on the Multi Domain Server.

The "Unused Objects" filter in the Global Domain shows objects only if not used by all of the Domains on the Multi-Domain Server.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included in:

* [Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R80.40](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk165456) starting from Take 91
* [Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R80.30](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk153152) starting from Take 227

This issue is not relevant for the R80.20 and R81 versions.  

If you choose not to upgrade, Check Point can supply a **Hotfix** . [Contact Check Point Support](https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/contact-support/) to get a Hotfix for this issue.  
A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing the Hotfix.  
For faster resolution and verification, please collect [CPinfo files](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk92739) from the Security Management Server and Security Gateways involved in the case.

Note: This issue exists starting from R80.40 jumbo hotfix take 83  

The following **workaround** is available for Multi Domain Server running with R80.40 jumbo hotfix Take 83 until Take 91.

On the MDS  

**Note:** It is not necessary to close the SmartConsole in order to go through these operations.  
**Note:** It is not necessary to run the mdsenv command in order to go through these operations.

1. Run the following commands in expert mode:

   `mdsenv`  
   `$MDS_FWDIR/scripts/reload_env_vars.sh -e "GLOBAL_DELETION_VALIDATION=1"`

   **Note:** Messages will be displayed on the console, please wait for the variable to change and the command prompt to appear again.
2. Open the SmartConsole for the global policy domain and delete the threat profile

3. Publish the change

4. Reassign the global policy to all domains in order to have the threat profile removal configuration change reflected in all the domains with global policy assigned

5. Run the following commands in expert mode:

   `mdsenv`  
   `$MDS_FWDIR/scripts/reload_env_vars.sh -e "GLOBAL_DELETION_VALIDATION=0"`

   **Note:** Messages will be displayed on the console, please wait for the variable to change and the command prompt to appear again.
