| Solution ID | sk172809 |

| Products | Security Management Server, Multi-Domain Security Management Server |
| Versions | R81 (EOS), R81 (EOS) |
| OS | Gaia |
| Platform | Smart-1, Open Server |

## Symptoms

- * Network monitoring systems report high utilization alerts on the loopback adapter for the Single-Domain/Multi-Domain Security Management Servers.
* RX/TX values increment on local loopback adapter.
* Packet captures on local loopback show internal communication on Check Point ports.

## Cause

The traffic examined on the loopback is traffic on internal communication ports of the Security Management Server communicating to itself on internal processes. This is not an issue and it is not manifested on any Single-Domain or Multi-Domain Security Management Server. In essence, the Single-Domain/Multi-Domain Security Management Server is very "chatty", it opens ports for communication between internal servers in the Single-Domain/Multi-Domain Security Management Server, for various functions. We highly recommend that you ignore monitoring of the loopback interface on these external servers.

## Solution

This behavior is expected on Check Point Security Management Servers. Create exceptions for loopback interface monitoring on network monitoring systems or global exceptions for device network discovery of loopback interfaces.
