## Symptoms

- 'traceroute' output shows the Cluster member physical IP instead of the Cluster VIP.  

For Example:

traceroute 8.8.8.8
traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets
�1 �10.10.10.11 (10.10.10.11) �2.487 ms �2.572 ms �2.608 ms

```

Here 10.10.10.11 is the physical ip address of the active cluster member in HA.

## Cause

ClusterXL uses virtual IP addresses for the Cluster itself and unique physical IP and MAC addresses for the members. Virtual IP addresses do not belong to physical interfaces.
