# sk171038 - Traffic over a VPN tunnel cannot reach a Standby member in a Spark Firewall Cluster

## Symptoms

- * The traffic fails from a VPN peer to a Standby member of a cluster of Quantum Spark appliances.

* Kernel debug on the Standby member shows that the traffic is dropped:

  `fw_log_drop_ex: Packet proto=<Protocol Number> <IP Address and Port of VPN Peer> -> <IP Address and Port of Standby Member> dropped by vp_drop_and_log Reason: Clear text packet should be encrypted;`
* The traffic from a VPN peer successfully reaches the Active member of a cluster of Quantum Spark appliances.

## Cause

This is a known limitation in a cluster of Quantum Spark / SMB appliances that run R77.20.x / R80.20.x versions.
