# sk170754 - Nonexistent interface appears under "show interfaces", "ifconfig", and in the WebUI after an upgrade to R80.40

## Symptoms

- * After an upgrade to R80.40, a none-xistent interface appears under "`show interfaces`", "`ifconfig`", and in the WebUI.
* The new interface has an incorrect name (example: "`eth-0`") and may have the same MAC as that of an existing interface.
* Some interfaces may appear with "`type: unknown`" under "`show interfaces`" or in the WebUI.
* The non-existent interface does not appear in "`show configuration`".

## Cause

After an upgrade of Gaia to R80.40, a rare race condition may occur during boot that slows the renaming of the interfaces, thus creating an inconsistency.
