# sk170393 - IKEv2 fails on Spark Firewall with the message "IKE failure: Informational exchange: Exchange failed: timeout reached" in logs

## Symptoms

- * IKEv2 fails to connect in Quantum Spark (SMB) appliances.

* Logs show this error: "`IKE failure: Informational exchange: Exchange failed: timeout reached.`"

* IKE debugs show, in Authentication, Message 1:

  ```
  the Embedded GAIA device uses an IP address in IDi and not the defined global identifier.
  ```

## Solution

To use the defined identifiers for IKEv2, you must select the **Advanced** option . If you do not select the **Advanced** option, the default behavior is to use the IP address. You must select the **Advanced** option even if the peer is not a Check Point Gateway.

**Note** - This feature is not supported in centrally managed appliances.
