# sk169916 - The ckp_regedit process keep on crashing and dumping core

## Symptoms

- * ckp_regedit process intermittently crashes when running the `ckp_regedit -p SOFTWARE//CheckPoint//FW1` command.  

* `/var/log/messages` shows:

  ```
  
  ckp_regedit[XXXXX]: segfault at 0000000000000007 rip 00000000f7f8772d rsp 00000000ffe33dc8 error 4
  do_coredump: corename = |/etc/coredump/compress.sh /var/log/dump/usermode/ckp_regedit.XXXXXX.core
  do_coredump: argv_arr[0] = /etc/coredump/compress.sh
  do_coredump: argv_arr[1] = /var/log/dump/usermode/ckp_regedit.XXXXXX.core
  ```

## Cause

The ckp_regedit process crashes happens when ckp_regedit is not able to successfully lock for access the registry file.
