# sk167015 - DHCP fails to issue new IP addresses in SMB appliances

| Property | Value |

| Solution ID | sk167015 |
| Date Created | 2020-05-21 |
| Last Modified | 2020-05-31 |

| Products | Spark Firewall (Locally Managed) |
| Versions | R82.00.X, R81.10.X |
| Platform | 400, 910 |

## Symptoms

- * DHCP fails to issue new IP addresses to some clients. System logs show repeated errors for same group of devices and LAN:
  * `INFO: [Local Network: DHCP] DHCPDISCOVER from macxx:xx:xx:xx via LAN1`
  * `ERROR:[Local Network: DHCP] Reclaiming abandoned lease xxx.xxx.xx.xxx`
  * `ERROR:[Local Network: DHCP] Abandoning IP address xxx.xxx.xx.xxx pinged before offer`
* DHCPREQUEST or DHCPOFFER Info messages are not seen even though tcpdump shows request traffic from the clients.<br />

## Cause

The lease time was manually set to 72 hours. The IP addresses that were detected as abandoned were still being used by active client that was responding to the ping command. When checking ipconfig details on those clients, a lease period of 10 days or more was registered.
