# sk166835 - Remote Access Clients fail to connect to the Maestro Gateway with the error "Negotiation with site failed" if the username consists of 6 or fewer characters

## Symptoms

- * Remote Access Clients fail to connect to the Maestro Gateway with the error "Negotiation with site failed" if the username consists of 6 or fewer characters.
* *trac.log* shows the following:

  ```

  ...
  [ 5916 7344][8 Apr 13:31:02][] fwasync_conn_get: get max buffer size (1048576) .
  ...
  [ 5916 7344][8 Apr 13:31:07][IKE] GotCredentialsEventHandler: Got CM packet, moving to the next handler
  
  In the failed flow the client sends HM reply packet in response to Receive credentials event and DOES NOT recieves response from GW for 70 sec:
  [ 5928 6580][8 Apr 9:17:36][IKE] **** GotCredentialsEventHandler: Receive credentials event: Cred Event
  ...
  [ 5928 5932][8 Apr 9:18:31][TracService] service_ctrl_ex: Called with ctrl_code 4
  ...
  [ 5928 6580][8 Apr 9:18:48][IKE] GotCredentialsEventHandler: Received unexpected IKE packet |Timeout event #1006| [IGNORED]
  ```

  The above means that the Gateway does not reply to the client with the expected IKE packet.

The Gateway encounters an issue during the authentication process if the username consists of 6 or fewer characters.
