| OS | Gaia |

## Symptoms

- The `/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log` file continually grows with no automatic maintenance.

## Cause

This log file is not rotated by default.

Therefore, with heavy API usage, the size of this file continues to grow quickly.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

* [Check Point R81.10](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk170416)
* [Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R81](https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/Jumbo_HFA/R81/Default.htm) starting from Take 82
* [Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R80.40](https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/Jumbo_HFA/R80.40/Default.htm) starting from Take 196

Check Point recommends to always upgrade to the [Recommended version](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk95746) ([Security Gateway](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doShowproductpage&productTab=downloads&product=435) / [VSX](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doShowproductpage&productTab=downloads&product=359) / [Security Management Server](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doShowproductpage&productTab=downloads&product=184) / [Multi-Domain Security Management Server](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doShowproductpage&productTab=downloads&product=166) / [SmartConsole](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doShowproductpage&productTab=downloads&product=191)).

**Explanation of the fix:**

Starting in R81.10, the log file */usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log* is part of the configuration file */etc/cpshell/log_rotation.conf* on the Management Server and Security Gateway.

**Workaround for versions R81 and lower:**

Follow [sk113241 (How to configure Gaia OS to rotate a custom log file)](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk113241) to add the file **/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log** in the configuration file **/etc/cpshell/log_rotation.conf** on the Management Server or Security Gateway in question.
