# sk164436 - Security Gateway fails to boot normally after modifying fwkern.conf file

## Symptoms

- * After modifying the $FWDIR/boot/modules/fwkern.conf or $FWDIR/conf/fwkern.conf the Security Gateway will not boot and is not accessible via SSH or HTTPS.
* Booting into maintenance mode and viewing /var/log/messages shows as a similar message:  
  ``

## Cause

An error was made in editing the fwkern.conf file. A parameter was entered but no value was assigned causing boot to fail.
