## Symptoms

- *kiss_kthread* has high CPU usage on 1100 ,1200R or 1400 appliance.

## Cause

*kiss_kthread*is the kernel thread which inspects packets at the kernel. As more packets are inspected, CPU usage increases. CPU usage also increases when Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) blades are enabled.

Causes of high CPU on *kiss_kthread* include:

* High traffic volume
* Enabled DPI blades (such as APPI and IPS) on an appliance undersized for the environment's traffic volume.
