# sk163484 - "Fixes pre-install validation has failed..." error when Identity Collector fails to update

## Symptoms

- * When trying to update Identity Collector on a client machine, the following error is received:  
  `"Fixes pre-install validation has failed. To prevent system instability, installation will not continue."`  

  The message indicates the location of a CRSValidator.log

* Opening CRSValidator.log file, the following error is shown:   
  `"ERROR: Existing inventory file (C:\Program Files (x86)\CheckPoint\Identity Collector\\crs.xml) cannot be updated with the new fixes. The updated inventory file is required for conflict validation of fixes."`
