## Symptoms

- * Unable to check if a new firmware upgrade is available when pushing the **"Check now"** link in **Device** -\> **System Operations** (Firmware Upgrade section) although a reachable proxy is configured in **Device** -\> **Proxy**.
* When running a packet capture, no traffic is initiated in order to check for the existence of a new firmware.
* The SFWD file under */opt/fw1/log/sfwd.elg* shows the following messages:

  ```
  Scheduled 'Firmware upgrade check' to run at xxMonthYear  x:xx:xx.
  sfwd_cloud_run_firmware_upgrade_check: No valid Internet connection.
  ```

## Solution

This is an expected behavior.

When you push the "**Check now** " link in **Device** -\> **System Operations**, the appliance looks for a default route. If a default route does not exist, the appliance declares that there is no Internet connection configured and, as a result, that it will not proceed to check if any new firmware upgrades are available.

For this to work, the below conditions must be satisfied:

1. The route towards the proxy must lead through the Internet-type interface, either WAN/DMZ/LAN promoted to Internet-type.
2. A default route must be set, but it does not necessarily need to overlap with the proxy route (which is done by checking "**Route traffic through this connection by default** " on the Internet connection's **advanced** tab in the ISP Redundancy section).
