| Solution ID | sk162878 |
| Date Created | 2019-10-07 |

| Technical Level | General |
| Products | Security Management Server, Multi-Domain Security Management Server, Cloud Firewall |
| Versions | R82.10, R82, R81.20, R82.10, R82.10, R82.20, R81.20, R82, R82.20, R81.20, R82 |

## Symptoms

- * After local upgrade of the Security Management/Multi-Domain Server from one version to other (Example: R80.20 to R80.30), the vsec_lic_cli is not working as expected
* Before upgrade, the central license utility was enabled.
After upgrade, the utility is disabled and this message is shown when trying to run the utility by executing vsec_lic_cli:
*"Please wait while connecting to management server
  Command aborted.
Automatic distribution is OFF, please turn it on by running 'vsec_lic_cli on' "*
* Before upgrade, on Multi-Domain Server, the central license utility was configured with DOMAIN mode.
After upgrade, the utility is configured with MDS mode and this message is shown when trying to run the utility from DOMAIN mode:
*"Please wait while connecting to management server
  Command aborted.
Central license is configured with MDS system mode, please run from MDS context."*
* Before upgrade, in the central license utility, collecting data for core usage report was enabled.
After upgrade, collecting data for core usage report is disabled and when trying to Generate core usage report this message is shown:
*"Data collector for core usage is disabled. In order to generate the report please enable it."*
* Before upgrade, when a new Gateway was deployed and policy was installed on it, the Central License Utility automatically distributed the central license to that new Gateway.
After upgrade, when a new Gateway is deployed and policy was installed from the same Management Server, the Gateway does not receive the central license automatically.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included in:

* [**Check Point R80.40**](https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com/supportcenter/portal?eventSubmit_doGoviewsolutiondetails=&solutionid=sk160736) (and in upgrades from R80.20 and R80.30 to R80.40 GA and above)

<br />

For other versions and upgrades, do the following:

Reconfigure the settings of the central license vsec_lic_cli utility manually after the upgrade:

1. To enable the utility run "vsec_lic_cli on"

2. To configure the utility with domain mode in a Muliti-Domain Server, run "vsec_lic_cli mode domain"

3. To enable collecting data for core usage report, execute:

a. vsec_lic_cli

b. From the menu, choose "6. Gateways core usage report"

c. From the submenu choose "1. Enable collecting data for core usage report"

Or instead just run in CLI "vsec_lic_cli report enable"

4. To manually distribute the central license to new Security Gateways that didn't get the central license yet, execute:

a. vsec_lic_cli

b. From the menu, choose "4. Run license distribution"

Or instead just run in CLI "vsec_lic_cli distribute"
