# sk156132 - "Cannot get device ring settings: Operation not supported" error when changing the ring size buffer using "ethtool -G" in Scalable Platform Appliances

## Symptoms

- * When the user tries to modify the ring size buffer with gclish or clish shell, the modification is successful. However, validating the change with "ethtool -g \[interface name\]" shows that the modification did not occur.
* Trying to change the ring size using "ethtool -G" results in the following error:

  ```
  
  [Expert@Hostname-ch01-01:0]# ethtool -g eth1-01
  
  Ring parameters for eth1-01:
  
  Cannot get device ring settings: Operation not supported
  ```

## Cause

Most of the interfaces for Scalable Platform Appliances are actually pseudo interfaces, this change can only be applied to physical interfaces.  

The actual physical interfaces are:   
On Maestro: eths\* and Mgmt   
On Chassis: BPEthX and ethX-Mgmt4
