# sk15319 - How to delete an old policy package

## Solution

Use the SmartConsole / SmartDashboard to delete any policy package or any component of a policy package.

**Note** : Back up the existing `$FWDIR/conf` directory before implementing the below procedure.

**In R80.x:**

1. Select the File menu on the left and go to Manage policies:

2. Select the Policy Package and select "Delete":

3. In the appeared pop-up window, confirm your action by selecting "Yes"  

**Prior to R80 to delete the an Entire Policy Package:**

1. Select the File drop-down menu and select Delete -\> Entire Policy Package:

2. In the pop-up window, select the Policy Package you want removed and click"Delete":

3. Choose YES from the confirmation pop-up:

**Prior to R80 to delete the a Policy from a Package:**

1. Select the File drop-down menu and select Delete -\> Policy from Package:

2. In the pop-up window, select a component of a Policy Package you want removed then and click "Delete".
