# sk152873 - DNS configuration in a VSX Gateway / VSX Cluster Member applies to all Virtual Systems in R80.40 and lower

## Symptoms

- * DNS configuration in a VSX Gateway / VSX Cluster Member applies to all Virtual Systems.

* DNS configuration in the context of a specific Virtual System applies to all Virtual Systems.

## Cause

In VSX versions **R80.40 and lower**, DNS configuration is global and automatically applies to all Virtual Systems.

Example:

VSX:1> set dns primary 8.8.8.8
VSX:1>
VSX:1> show dns

## Solution

No fix is required; the system is functioning as designed.  

In VSX versions **R81 and higher** , you can configure DNS servers for each Virtual System.
