# sk151652 - CPM process fails to start on R80.x Management with "postmaster.pid error"

## Symptoms

- * CPM process fails to start while FWM process remains in "Pending" state for several hours without change.

* "cpstart" or "mdsstart" commands produce the following error:

  ```
  
  pg_ctl: PID file "/opt/CPshrd-R80/database/postgresql/data/postmaster.pid" does not exist
  Is server running?
  ```

* The `cpm.elg` file shows errors:

  ```
  
  Caused by: org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: 
  Connection refused. 
  Check that the hostname and port are correct and that the postmaster is accepting TCP/IP connections.
  ```

## Cause

* This issue stems from a disk space issue on the root partition.
* To confirm disk space issue, run the following command:   
  *# /opt/CPshrd-R80/database/postgresql/bin/postgres*   

  Expected output: "*FATAL: could not write lock file "postmaster.pid": No space left on device*"
