# sk145452 - Increasing Session Timeout for TCP services

## Solution

TCP session timeout is the length of time an idle connection will remain in the Security Gateway Connections Table.

The default 3600 seconds (1 hour) is recommended.   
The supported range: minimum of 60 seconds and a maximum of 86400 seconds (24 hours).  
It was increased to 4259800 seconds starting in

Each service in the SmartConsole can be edited to modify its session timeout value. Proceed as follows in order to modify the session timeout value for a specific service:

In the SmartConsole:

1. Go to Services dialog box, select the TCP service, for which the session timeout value will be modified.  

2. Click '`View`':

3. In the TCP Service Properties dialog box, click '`Advanced`'.  

4. In the Advanced TCP Service Properties dialog box, select '`Override default settings`' option.  

5. In the 'Virtual session timeout' section, delete the current session timeout value and enter the desired session timeout value in seconds:

6. Click on '`OK`' in the Advanced TCP Service Properties dialog box.  

7. Click on '`OK`' in the TCP Service Properties dialog box.  

8. Install the Security policy onto relevant Security Gateway.
