# sk143873 - 60000 / 40000 - SSM becomes unresponsive and is rebooted after 30 minutes

## Symptoms

- * The SSM stops responding to SNMP queries generated by the CMD. As a result, the SSM and all associated ports are marked as down.

      
      Example from /var/log/messages on the CH Monitor SGM
      cmd: Failed to communicate with SSM, run check alive test 
      cmd: SSM check alive test succeeded, retry to communicate 
      chassis_control: SNMP request for event 5 timed out (state 2) 
      cmd: SSM communication retry failed
      cmd: Chassis 1 SSM2 is down, 1 SSM(s) currently active

* During the issue, the problematic SSM is still reachable via `'ssh ssm#'`. Commands executed in the regular SSM shell take too long or do not complete. Commands executed in the private shell still work normally.
* After 30 minutes, the SSM does not recover and is restarted by the CMD process (by design).   
  `cmd: Restarting SSM2 due to miscommunication over 1800 seconds`
* SSM uptime is \>= 350 days.

## Cause

The root cause has not yet been identified.
