# sk141333 - Using the DBAN Tool on Smart-1 appliances with a hardware RAID card does not work

## Symptoms

- When using the DBAN tool to erase HDD on appliances with RAID (as per the instructions in the Administration Guide) the following message appears: `"Loading dban.bzi"`, but the operation fails.

## Cause

The DBAN cannot be used on HDD with a RAID card.
