| Date Created | 2018-09-30 |

| Technical Level | Advanced |
| Products | Multi-Domain Security Management Server |
| Versions | R81 (EOS), R81.10 (EOS), R81.20 |
| OS | Gaia |

## Symptoms

- * SmartConsole shows an error when trying to create a new Domain:

  `
  The license on Multi-Domain Server [<HostName>] allows to manage <X> Domain Management/Log Servers. <Y> are already defined.`

  Where:
  * X = Number of Domain Management Servers / Domain Log Servers allowed by the license
  * Y = Number of Domain Management Servers / Domain Log Servers configured
* The *$MDS_FWDIR/log/cpm.elg* file contains:

  `ERROR coresvc.internal.DomainManagementSvcImpl [qtp1044134579-451]: Caught ValidationException Cannot create domain server. Reason 'License violation detected:
  Multi-Domain Server 'HOSTNAME'`

## Cause

Possible root causes:

* The new Domain Management Server / Domain Log Server indeed exceeds the number of configured Domain Management Servers / Domain Log Servers that the current license allows.

* After deleting Domain Management Servers / Domain Log Servers, the Multi-Domain Management Server does not update the required files:

  * *$CPDIR/conf/mds_lic_info.dat*
  * *$CPDIR/conf/mdsdb/cp-deleted.C*
* Invalid license SKU.
