# sk136612 - BGP peers lost on Active gateway of BGP cluster when hotfix installed on Standby gateway

## Symptoms

- * When installing a hotfix on the Standby gateway of BGP cluster, BGP peers are lost on the Active gateway.
* After the BGP peers are lost, it may take several minutes for BGP peers to re-establish on the Active gateway.

## Cause

This is is very specific to BGP with the use of VTIs (Virtual Tunnel Interfaces), or Route Based VPN. The issue was **not** observed in a BGP environment without the use of VTIs.

During the installation of a hotfix on the Standby gateway, it will start acting as the BGP master, in addition to the Active gateway, which is the actual master.
