Introduction {#Introduction}
----------------------------

The Check Point **Database Tool** (also known as **GuiDBedit Tool**) is an advanced tool for administrators to edit objects and properties in the Management Server database. There are properties and attributes that do not appear in SmartConsole clients.

Warning {#Warning}
------------------

Due to the powerful database editing abilities supplied by the tool, only experienced users should work with it.

Always back up the Security Management Server / Multi-Domain Security Management Server before performing any changes in the database. Refer to [sk54100 - How to back up your system](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk54100).

Availability {#Availability}
----------------------------

The Database Tool is supplied as part of the SmartConsole installation.

Design Limitations
------------------

1. The session is published when exiting the tool.
2. The tool does not have the session discard option (that exists in SmartConsole).
3. The tool cannot edit predefined Check Point objects (for example, services) because they are stored in a read-only domain (named 'CPDATA'). To modify a predefined object, you must clone it, so it is stored in the User domain.

Procedure {#Procedure}
----------------------

The Database Tool executable - `GuiDBedit.exe` - is located in the same folder where the SmartConsole is installed.

To work with database on Security Management Server or Domain Management Server (CMA), run:

* On Windows OS 32-bit:  
  **C:\Program Files\CheckPoint\SmartConsole\*<RXX>*\PROGRAM\GuiDBedit.exe**` `  

* On Windows OS 64-bit:  
  **C:\Program Files (x86)\CheckPoint\SmartConsole\*<RXX>*\PROGRAM\GuiDBedit.exe**

To work with MDS database on Multi-Domain Management Server, run:

* On Windows OS 32-bit:  
  **C:\Program Files\CheckPoint\SmartConsole\*<RXX>*\PROGRAM\GuiDBedit.exe /mds**` `  

* On Windows OS 64-bit:  
  **C:\Program Files (x86)\CheckPoint\SmartConsole\*<RXX>*\PROGRAM\GuiDBedit.exe /mds**

For example, you can see objects in the 'mdss' table only when the tool connects to the IP address of the Multi-Domain Server with the "*/mds* " flag.
