# sk122705 - Uninstall of Endpoint Security VPN client causes network adapters not to function

## Symptoms

- * Following uninstall of Endpoint Security VPN Client, network adapters on the machine are not functioning.
* There is no output when running *ipconfig* on command line.
* Reinstallation of the driver resolves the issue.

## Cause

Kaspersky (KES self-defense) is installed on the machine.

KES self-defense does not allow any third-party apps (in this case, the Endpoint Security VPN Client) to modify certain critical system settings that could prevent KES operability.

In this case, it blocks the following operations:

Application: VsDrInst.exe  
Action: Changing key value  
Object: hkey_local_machine\\SYSTEM\\CONTROLSET001\\CONTROL\\CLASS\\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\\0005\\LINKAGE\\ROOTDEVICE

Application: vna_install64.exe  
Action: Changing key value  
Object: hkey_local_machine\\SYSTEM\\CONTROLSET001\\CONTROL\\CLASS\\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\\0007\\LINKAGE\\FILTERLIST

Therefore VPN uninstaller cannot properly unregister filters for network device, causing them not to function.
