## Symptoms

- * After Endpoint Security Client installation, mouse and keyboard connected to docking station do not work in preboot.
* Keyboard, connected directly to laptop, and touch pad are operational.

## Cause

In most cases, the root cause of the issue is "Fastboot" option in BIOS. If fastboot is enabled, it allows the PC to boot much faster, but all external devices like mouse and keyboard will be initialized only with Windows boot.

## Solution

Below are several possible solutions:

**Solution 1:**

Open BIOS and change boot mode to "Thorough" or "Auto (POST behavior menu in BIOS)". This is a fastboot option and it makes the laptop boot without initializing any USB device, in order make the boot process faster.

**Solution 2:**

Open BIOS "USB PowerShare" menu (usually it is in System Configuration BIOS menu), and disable this option.

**Solution 3:**

Open SmartEndpoint policies. In Full Disk Encryption Policy rule, open the "Authenticate user before OS loads" action. Click on "Advanced Pre-boot Settings" and make sure that "Enable USB devices in pre-boot environment" is selected.

**The next three solutions describe the changes that should be made in FDE Preboot Customization menu.**

To boot to this menu press and hold both "Shift" keys (for BIOS) or "Ctrl+Space" (for UEFI) during laptop boot.

To change the value inside the menu, press the number in brackets near it.

**Solution 4:**

Open FDE Preboot Customization menu and change "USB support". **It should not be "According to policy"**.

**Solution 5:**

Open Preboot Customization menu and change the value of "Enable PS\\2 keyboard driver to "No".

**Solution 6:**

Open FDE Preboot Customization menu and change PCMCIA value to "Disabled".

**Solution 7:**

BIOS and USB drivers upgrade.

**Workaround how to boot to FDE Preboot Customization menu**

Sometimes a laptop boots too fast and there is no possibility to boot into FDE Preboot Customization menu by just holding correct keys.

To get more time while machine is booting:

1. Boot to BIOS.
2. Open the Boot Sequence menu and set "Network Card" as first option.
3. Save changes and exit.

As a result, when laptop is booting it will try to boot from network interface. This will give you more time to login to the Preboot Customization menu.

As soon as you see booting from NIC, press and hold "Shift"+"Shift" or "Ctrl+Space".
